Engraved frontispiece (plate 22) and 96 further numbered engraved plates, including one with contemporary hand-colour, of garden plans, designs and architecture (some early spotting). Modern half maroon morocco, gilt; cloth clamshell box. Provenance: with the ink library stamp of de Kluijs on the half-title and the verso of the frontispiece; with the monogram of William McCarty-Cooper (1938 - 1991), interior designer and art-collector, on the spine label of the clamshell box, his sale Christie's 25 January 1992, lot 7. Third edition, first published in 1818. With fine engravings depicting gardens and garden-buildings and ornaments from Amien to Valeacinnes, and including several plates of plans for the Petit Trianon. The hand-coloured plate depicts gothic stained glass windows. |
